Intuition strategy innovation design

We trust our intuition and use it. Design is a complex and intricate process, but we believe that it also has to be direct and free. Through communication and interaction the blurry idea becomes more specific and when the final project is described, it still lives up to the requirement of being intuitive.
Intuitively is our way of commencing a design phase, but also a characteristic of the final design.

We design to make products of high quality, both beautiful and functional. Our design is strategic, which means that designs are made to fill out marked gaps and to add value to the product.

We aim to make innovative design. Our design is new, creative and personal. It is beautiful with a twist.

Methods
A design at Carl&Carl passes through three different phases:

We start with an idea or a problem to be solved. An idea can be as wild and innovative as any. Neither economy, technology or the market will  limit our work at this point.

Once the agreement is set, we start analysing the market and the consumers. Areas to explore, consumer identification etc? This also feeds an economic discussion: What will the consumer pay or how much money do we need for prototyping?
After these two steps the aesthetic design comes to live. When these three steps have been completed, we reconsider: Is the basic idea still great, has it changed or does it need to evolve further?!

about

-It is no coincidence that we ended up working together.

Already during our education we started collaborating. Our different personalities and areas of expertise, creative struggles and different ways of approaching things, always result in challenging products and designs.
And the result is hard to ignore; our designs have been awarded many prizes and mentions.

In the autumn of 2008, after years of trimming our skills together, we finally started Carl & Carl with its base in the centre of Copenhagen.

Carl and Carl deliver products at all design stages; from idea development through product descriptions over prototyping and finished designs ready for production.

Thomas Albertsen

“Thomas Albertsen is educated at Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen as an industrial designer as well. During his studies he participated in several design competitions and has won many prizes for his contributions.
He placed his internship at Furnitubes, a street furniture company based in London. During his studies and after graduating he has been working at Brahe Design in Copenhagen. Thomas has always been very open- minded and playful. He is the boldest inventor and creator, never hesitating to solve tricky problems and is always ready to give constructive criticism.”

“I have a great passion for working with physical models as well as 3d, and nothing gives me a greater thrill than making things work.”

Gustaf Wollin

“Gustaf Wollin is an industrial designer, educated at Danmarks Designskole in
Copenhagen. He has been awarded several prizes and acknowledgements during his studies. For a period of six months he placed his internship at the design studio of CBD in Beijing, China. After his graduation project, made in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen, he started working as a freelance designer for Troels Seidenfaden in Copenhagen. This work mainly consisted of developing lifestyle products for brands as Stelton and Weber.

“ -- Scandinavian design, with its heritage of simplicity and pure formalism, provides a solid base in my design process. Items are always thoroughly analysed and re-cycled, aiming for versatility and with the result of a final twist. It is not only the products themselves that interest me; the challenge of creating universes and conveying the connection between the products and its environment, make an important part of the process. By strategic design, keen to every part of the concept you can reach innovation.”
